Frequently Asked Questions About New Online Ordering System

We know learning a new tool can take a little time, especially the first time you use it. To help use your new online quoting and ordering tool, we’ve assembled this list of most frequently asked questions. If you still need need assistance, please watch this quick video tutorial or email sales@aapcb.com.

What PCB services can I quote and order online?

You can order any combination of PCB manufacturing that you need. The available services are:

  •  Individual PCB services:
    • PCBs only
    • Assembly only
    • Component only
  • Partial Turnkey:
    • PCBs and Assembly (you supply the parts)
    • Assembly and Components (you supply the boards)
  • Full Turnkey
    • PCBs, Components and Assembly (this is the easiest way to assemble your PCBs)

How many quantities can I quote at one time?

You can quote as many quantities as you would like.

Why do you have a calendar for turn-time instead of number of days? This is different from other manufacturers.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to get your projects delivered when you need them. Just tell us the date you want your boards shipped we’ll find the least expensive turn-time option for you.

Why type of files do I need to provide?

You will need:

  1. Gerbers
  2. XYRS
  3. BOM. The BOM file must be in an .xlsx, .xls, or .csv (comma separated) format.

What are the required columns for mapping my BOM?

The five critical pieces of information you must include in your BOM are:

  1. Quantity per board
  2. Reference designator
  3. Manufacturer
  4. Manufacturer Part Number
  5. Description

What do I do if my BOM doesn’t have a line for PCBs?

This is not a problem. Our system automatically reviews your BOM and looks for a PCB line. If one is missing, you will be prompted to add a PCB line on a separate screen.

Which optional services are an additional cost?

The services that require an additional charge are: BGA Xray, AOI, Flying Probe, Conformal Coating, Press Fits, Functional Testing, AS9100D certification, Vapor Phase and Ionic Testing.

What happens if my PCB requirements are not listed on the PCB details screen?

If you don’t see the PCB parameters you need, don’t worry. We have PCB fab capabilities beyond what is listed online. Just select “request a custom quote” and our team will assist in quoting your particular project.

The Part Availability page keeps “sticking” during processing. Why is this happening?

Depending on the size of the BOM, it can take up to 5 minutes for our system to search all available component suppliers. However, if you are unable to see the part availability screen, please check your BOM file type. The BOM file must be in an .xlsx, .xls, or .csv (comma separated) format.

Where do you purchase components from?

Advanced Assembly uses certified/authorized distributors (Digi-Key, Mouser, etc.) and is directly connected to distributors via API. If a customer requests to use a supplier beyond our authorized list; these requests are reviewed and approved/unapproved depending on compliance standards to avoid counterfeit components and/or security risk.

Why does it say my project requires a custom quote and can’t be quoted online?

Our PCB manufacturing capabilities go far beyond what is listed online. If your project requires options not available through our online pricing system, we need to create a custom quote. This simply means a sales representative will reach out with additional questions to make sure we are providing the most accurate quote.

Why do I need to log in to see pricing?

We want to make sure your project details are saved so we can provide you with the best pricing and speed. Creating an account not only gets you access to pricing, but you can purchase your project directly online. Additionally, you’ll be able to trace your project and shipping through our customer portal.

Can I quote my ITAR build?

No. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot offer automated ITAR quotes. Please reach out to sales@aapcb.com and we will get one started for you!

What is an NRE charge?

NRE stands for Non-Recurring Expense and includes all the costs involved in setting up your project for assembly including machine set-up. Companies that say they don’t charge an NRE typically are burying this cost in another area. We prefer to be upfront and transparent with our pricing.

What if the pricing provided is beyond my budget?

We strive to provide the best possible pricing at all times. However, occasionally we have special promotions we can offer, especially for brand new customers. Give us a call and we will try to work within your budget.
