WHAT IS A FLEXIBLE FOOTPRINT?
Advanced Assembly’s Research & Development team, in partnership with electronics engineer Mike Drake, developed and tested a flexible footprint, stepped land pattern you can use on your next design!
This technique makes a stepped-part and gives assembly houses new options for part selection. A land pattern that previously only accepted an 0603 sized land pattern might be modified to accept an 0402 or 0805 sized part. Similarly, an 0805 land pattern might accept 1206, 1210, or 0603 sized parts.
